Civita di Bagnoregio is an ancient town founded by the Etruscans in 2500 BC that stands on a fortress which dominates the valley of the Badlands, it’s listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy. If you go on a cloudy day this village will appear you as suspended above the clouds.

Places must-visit: the Church of San Donato, the Bishop’s Palace, a mill of the XVI century, the port of Santa Maria. During the Christmas season, you can also admire a beautiful nativity scene.

Once you have left Civita it’s worth to continuing in direction of Bomarzo to see the “sacred forest”, known as the “Monster Park”, a must if you are traveling with children, where you will admire the incredible stone sculptures depicting giant animals and mythological characters, the leaning house and all the wonders monstrous created in 1500 by the architect Pirro Ligorio.

Civita di Bagnoregio is 45 Km from Amelia and can be reached through the Orte-Viterbo rail, exit Siena-Lake Bolsena. On the Orte-Viterbo there is also the exit for Bomarzo, which is 39 km far from Civita.
